Programme description

With us, you get the opportunity to sharpen your skills in traditional window crafts. We prepare you for an industry where sustainability is increasingly focused. Today, it is not only private individuals who demand traditional craft techniques, but also owners of apartment buildings and churches. The window renovation area spans a wide area of renovation of both "newer" windows (for example from the 1960s) to windows belonging to older buildings. The demand on the market is great throughout Sweden and the queue time is long for those who work with window crafts.

Programme learning outcomes

The programme focuses on traditional window craft techniques with the goal of supplying the labor market with competence as one maintain to renovate windows and doors in a resource-efficient and sustainable way. A window craftsman is knowledgeable in several craft areas, which is necessary to efficiently and at the same time gently maintain and improve windows and doors in buildings of different ages. You must also have a good ability to correctly assess the status of existing objects and combine them this with knowledge of the building in order to design measures that are relevant to solve the problems that exist.

The emphasis in the education is on the use of traditional crafts and materials since these are usually environmentally friendly, durable and easy to maintain, but we also go through them during the year and uses modern methods and materials to highlight what is on the market. It is important to be able to make the right choice from an aesthetic, sustainability and financial point of view. The education therefore consists of a combination of practical and theoretical courses but with clear focus on the practical parts. The teaching of the practical elements takes place largely via exercises in our workshops but also by carrying out project work on buildings in the immediate area. To get a connection to working life, an internship period (LIA) of one month is included time which can also provide good contacts for the future. The theoretical courses should provide a good basis for to be able to make good material choices, good balancing of measures and carry out their work safely way. This package includes Materials Science, Building Physics, Architecture and Building History as well as Working environment. Since many of the window craftsmen active today run their own businesses, it is included a course in Entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship to give students an insight into the regulatory framework which governs business and the conditions within the industry.
