Access requirements Description
Into the programme can enroll anyone who:
- passed the matura,
- has passed the vocational matura in any secondary school programm and the examination in one of the matura subjects: art history, art theory, history, philosophy, psychology or sociology; the chosen subject may not be a subject that the candidate has already passed at the vocational matura,
- has completed any four-year high school program before 1.6. 1995.
All candidates must pass the aptitude test, which is conducted and assessed according to the Rules on the Talent Test of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design and the rules of the Enrollment Commission of the University of Ljubljana, published in the annual Tender of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.
For the first part of the talent assessment exam you submit a portfolio. The second part of the talent assessment exam may only be taken by the candidates whose portfolios receive a positive assessment. It takes place at one of the UL ALUO locations in the last days of June or in early July.

Subject-specific competences:

- knowledge and understanding of basic principles in conservation-restoration,
- knowledge of the history of the profession,
- ability to connect the basic principles and ethical principles of conservation-restoration with concrete situations in the profession,
- understanding of research methods, procedures and processes,
- development of skills and abilities in the profession,
- ability to implement the results of acquired knowledge in the planning and implementation of conservation and restoration interventions on cultural heritage,
- coherent mastery of basic knowledge,
- connecting knowledge from different fields of profession,
- in-depth knowledge in natural, technical and humanistic specific fields,
- knowledge and use of art and technological knowledge for the realization of the appropriate restoration process on the work of art,
- ability to include interdisciplinary research work and implementation of consensual presentation solutions,
- understanding the organizational elements of studio and field interventions by implementing safety and environmental obligations and rationalization,
- ability to master computer science and modern media forms in the planning and implementation of interventions, research work, documentation and use of information resources,

Mandatory practical training description
Students develop the skills for rescuing damaged works of art during practical work in the studios of ALUO, museums, galleries and the Restoration Centre of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia. In the final study year and within the mandatory practical work at one of the above institutions you will acquire an in-depth knowledge of the technical, scientific, artistic and organisational aspects of conservation/restoration.
Required qualification of teachers/trainers in the core subjects
Teaching staff must provide proof of fulfilment of the quantitative and qualitative criteria for election to the title or recognition of the title in accordance with the criteria for election to the titles of professors, research assistants and assistants at the University of Ljubljana.
Description of quality assurance obligations of the programme / institution
The system of quality at the University of Ljubljana (UL) is founded on valid standards, regulations and recommendations from the authorities responsible for ensuring the quality of higher education on the national and international levels. In accordance with the established standards, systems of quality are based on a closed feedback loop, with clear processes of identifying objectives and priorities, planning measures and operation, implementing planned activities and monitoring and evaluating activities and measures implemented, including an assessment of the effects, which serves as input information for a new cycle of planning.
With the aim of monitoring and improving the quality of study programmes, regular self-evaluation is carried out for each active study programme. Self-evaluation of study programmes serves to ensure the quality of programme provision, and to monitor the current relevance and sustainability of the individual study programme.
