Programme description

Gilders/goldplaters and decorators design and refine objects and surfaces with traditional and modern craft techniques. They apply gold plating of gold leaf to ornamental and everyday objects or cover them with layers of silver leaf, leaf copper or bronze powder. In addition, they repair and restore historical art and furnishings or parts of buildings (e.B. church altars, monuments, tower clocks). They paint, varnish and decorate the objects and carry out various surface treatments. The educational programme consists of a 3-year apprenticeship which combines practical training at a company/workshop with classes at a specialised vocational school (Berufsschule). The qualification is awarded after a final exam by the Austrian Chamber of Commerce.

Is the programme a joint degree programme?
No
Double degree
No

No
Cooperation with other institutions

In all Austrian apprenticeship programmes the so-called dual education system means that the training is jointly delivered by practical training at a company, which is combined with classes at a specialized VET school. This traditional system does not fit the criteria for joint, double degrees or joint delivery, although there are two different institions involved in the education and training and a third institution (chamber of commerce) awards the degree and hence is the qualification provider.
