Programme description

The master programme places the necessary emphasis on the acquisition of practical professional knowledge through training, but naturally remains an academic programme with a strong scientific component. Attention is paid to the theoretical principles and methodologies of archivistics and information management, but also to broader policy issues such as management, archiving strategies, selection, material preservation and digitisation. Finally, you will acquire insight into the laws and regulations in the field of heritage management in general and archives legislation in particular. You will also learn about issues such as privacy protection and public access to government.

In the course of the programme, a lot of attention is paid to the acquisition of practical skills and professional techniques, such as organising and describing, or drawing up an information management plan. You also learn a number of practical aspects of management, such as how to develop a policy plan for a heritage institution. These aspects are covered in the exercises and alternative learning forms as well as during the internship. The internship is an extension of the taught subjects and brings you into contact with the actual working field. Its purpose is to test the acquired (theoretical) knowledge in practice and to let you gain experience. Such practical experience will help you in your first steps on the labour market.
