The stonemason will be able to organise and carry out work in the manual processing of stone products, in the mechanical processing and installation of stone elements. He knows how to choose the right type of stone for different products. He knows how to use and maintain hand tools and machines for cutting and processing stone.

Anyone who has successfully completed the following can enroll in the educational program:

  • primary education or
  • lower vocational education or
  • equivalent education according to previous regulations.

Programme learning outcomes

The certificate holder is qualified to:

  • chiselling with hand tools and polishing surfaces and profiles;
  • work with machines for cutting, surface treatment and profile and special processing of natural stone;
  • producing ornaments, gravestones and interior design elements from natural stone;
  • laying floors, window sills, stairs, exterior and interior panelling made of natural stone slabs;
  • the rational use of energy, materials and time;
  • the use of technical documentation for the manufacture of stone products and the provision of stone services;
  • compliance with the principles of health protection, occupational safety and environmental protection;
  • carrying out renovation work and protecting stone elements.

Optional:

  • production and installation of formwork, dismantling of formwork structures and maintenance and storage of formwork elements;
  • manual execution of basic stonemasonry work;
  • bricklaying work with all basic types of bricks and blocks;
  • manual and mechanical production of interior and exterior plaster;
  • preparing substrates and materials and laying ceramic coverings on simple interior and exterior surfaces and grouting coated surfaces;
  • carrying out transport work with a forklift lorry;
  • installation of reinforcements in simple structures and preparation and installation of concrete mixes in concrete and reinforced concrete structures.

Description of available grants

A student who enrolls in the 1st year of the stonemason program can apply for a scholarship for deficit professions, which is advertised by the Public Scholarship, Development, Disability and Maintenance Fund of the Republic of Slovenia.
