The Secondary School of Construction and Gymnasium Maribor is the official contractor for the national professional qualification "Painter-decorator/sign painter, restoration assistant". The training is formally recognised on the basis of national professional standards and acquired on the basis of verified training programmes or as part of the procedure for the verification and confirmation of national professional qualifications.

Access requirements Description

Special conditions that must be met by the person who wishes to tender vocational qualification:

  • complete secondary vocational education under the "Painter-decorator/sign painter" programme or a pass in the master craftsman examination in painting-decorating/sign painting, or at least completed secondary vocational education including the technical part of the final examination (product with oral presentation) for the vocational qualification Painter-decorator/sign painter (Slikopleskar-črkoslikar/slikopleskarka-črkoslikarska) and
  • three years' work experience, demonstrated by proof of works carried out in the field of painting-decorationg/sign painting, and
  • proof of at least three interventions in architectural heritage properties completed and documented in accordance with the occupational standard that forms part of this catalogue and approved by a restorer who has passed the professional examination in the protection of cultural heritage.

Programme learning outcomes

Candidates will be able to:  

  • undertake all phases of works in cooperation and agreement with experts from the cultural heritage protection service and other contractors working in a property, 
  • pay due heed in their work to experts responsible for the protection and conservation of cultural heritage and consistently observe cultural heritage protection legislation,
  • accept and review technical documentation and normative acts and other requirements of the cultural heritage protection service and plan their work accordingly,
  • assess the causes and degree of damage to decorative painting and stuccowork,
  • protect, clean and repair decorative painting and stuccowork using traditional technologies,
  • carry out decorative painting and stuccowork using traditional technologies,
  • model and make missing sections, make casts and copies,
  • draw attention to unexpected finds and changes during the planning, preparation and implementation of the intervention,
  • document photographically all key phases of the intervention.
Required qualification of teachers/trainers in the core subjects

A licence to become a member of the Commission for the Verification and Certification of National Professional Qualifications may be obtained by anyone who meets the conditions laid down in the National Vocational Qualifications Act.
