Programme description

A photographic technician will become an expert, who has mastered the field of photographic creation, which includes author photography as well as commercially oriented professional photography that goes beyond the framework of “instant” production and is therefore at the service of systems that require high-quality products. Our students master picking the right moment for taking a high quality photo while in the field or when shooting in a studio. During our program and training student becomes familiar with modern photographic techniques, develops artistic sensibility and becomes receptive to the message of his product. Every year our program also take on more demanding projects, for example, we are the official photographers of high-profile sporting and cultural events, we also exhibit in prestigious galleries and museums.

Access requirements Description

Anyone who has successfully completed the following can enroll in the educational program:

  • primary education or
  • lower vocational education or
  • equivalent education according to previous regulations.

All candidates must pass the aptitude test, which is conducted and assessed according to the Rules on the Talent Test of the Secondary School of Design and Photography Ljubljana.

For the first part of the talent assessment exam you submit a portfolio of 10 artworks – 5 drawings and 5 colour paintings. The second part of the talent assessment exam may only be taken by the candidates whose portfolios receive a positive assessment. It takes place at one of the SŠOF locations in the beginning of March. The aptitude test is the same for all programs. If student passes the exam, he can enrol in any given program.

Programme learning outcomes

Certificate holders will be able to: 

  • creatively devise and prepare ideas for photographic assignments,
  • take photographs within the field covered by traditional photographic subjects in a studio and outdoors (landscape, portrait, reportage and architectural photography),
  • take photographs within the field of commercial and technical photography (fashion, advertising, industrial and reproduction photography),
  • take photographs within the field of scientific and technical photography (macro- and microscopic photography and photography for archive purposes, medicine, archaeology, environmental protection, restoration and cartography),
  • take photographs within the field of recording events (news and reportage photography),
  • take photographs using analogue and digital photographic equipment,
  • film using film cameras and video cameras,
  • work with vector graphics software and digital image processing software,
  • work in photographic processing labs (black-and-white and colour photography),
  • manage and work autonomously in a photography studio,

Elective:                                                           

  • realise ideas in audio-visual production,
  • manage and set up lights for the realisation of project assignments,
  • manage multimedia equipment and arrange a simple multimedia project,
  • prepare 2D and 3D projections and arrange audio and video connections.

Certificate holders build on their key vocational knowledge and abilities with key general knowledge in line with national standards.
