Access requirements Description
Access to the academic study programme Classical and humanistic studies is granted to candidates who have:
- completed the general Matura or
- completed the vocational matura in any secondary school programme and an examination in the matura subject of Latin; if the candidate has already passed this subject in the vocational matura, an examination in any other matura subject; the selected subject may not be a subject which the candidate has already taken in the vocational matura; or
- school-leaving examination (prior to 1 June 1995) under any four-year secondary school programme.

The qualification holder will be able to:

(subject-specific competences)
- provide a comprehensive overview of Greco-Roman history and material and non-material culture,
- demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the genres, periods, authors and texts of classical Latin and Greek literature,
- demonstrate familiarity with the literature and culture of the Latin Middle Ages, humanism and Byzantium,
- read literary, specialist and documentary texts in one of the two classical languages (Latin philology or Greek philology stream); demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the chosen language's structure, development and influence on modern languages.
- read texts in the other classical language (Latin philology or Greek philology stream) with the aid of dictionaries,
- integrate knowledge and skills from different fields of research of ancient and later Greek and Latin culture in an interdisciplinary manner,
- demonstrate knowledge of various theoretical approaches, models and methodologies and apply them in a considered manner,
- use primary sources, critical apparatuses, commentaries, secondary literature and technical manuals in a critical manner,
- use traditional and modern methods of textual analysis in a considered manner,
- autonomously interpret Latin and Greek texts in the original and in translation,
- demonstrate critical understanding of the reception of ancient culture in various periods of the modern era and its presence in the contemporary world,
- undertake autonomous professional activity in fields related to the research of classical languages, literature and culture,
- autonomously write survey articles,
- communicate and popularise Greek and Latin language, literature and culture,
- undertake autonomous professional development in fields related to the research of classical languages, literature and culture.
Description of quality assurance obligations of the programme / institution
The system of quality at the University of Ljubljana (UL) is founded on valid standards, regulations and recommendations from the authorities responsible for ensuring the quality of higher education on the national and international levels. In accordance with the established standards, systems of quality are based on a closed feedback loop, with clear processes of identifying objectives and priorities, planning measures and operation, implementing planned activities and monitoring and evaluating activities and measures implemented, including an assessment of the effects, which serves as input information for a new cycle of planning.
With the aim of monitoring and improving the quality of study programmes, regular self-evaluation is carried out for each active study programme. Self-evaluation of study programmes serves to ensure the quality of programme provision, and to monitor the current relevance and sustainability of the individual study programme.
