Programme description

The Master’s Degree in Foreign Languages, Tourism, and Heritage Development provides students with advanced knowledge and skills to understand and analyse the multifaceted phenomena of tourism and heritage. Graduates develop expertise in key disciplines—including anthropology, economics, geography, history, and cultural studies—and their interdisciplinary applications to the organisation, promotion, and management of tourism systems while studying languages such as Arabic, French, Japanese, English, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Spanish, and German.

    Assessment Methods:
    Oral and written examinations, language exercises, guided visits, seminars requiring written or oral reports, and project-based evaluations are used to assess knowledge and skills. The final thesis, an original research project under faculty supervision, evaluates students’ ability to synthesise interdisciplinary approaches to tourism studies.

    • Consultants for local authorities and tourism enterprises, focusing on cultural tourism.
    • Researchers and technical experts in tourism-related fields.

    Graduates are also well-positioned for careers in multimedia content production that combines cultural depth with effective communication, particularly in tourism and heritage-related publishing and linguistic mediation. The University of Turin is a public institution aiming at "higher education, and scientific and technological research” (art. 1, University of Turin Statute).

    The University has a clear governance structure in accordance with the principle of autonomy established by Italian law in 1989. It defines its own Statute and regulations on educational, scientific, organisational, administrative, financial and accounting activities.

    All Italian Universities have to undergo an institutional certification (audit) by ANVUR (ITALIAN NATIONAL AGENCY FOR THE EVALUATION OF UNIVERSITIES AND RESEARCH INSTITUTES): https://www.anvur.it/en/activities/ava/ . The verification translates into an accreditation judgement, outcome of a process through which a university is recognized as possessing (Initial Accreditation) or maintaining (Periodic Accreditation) the basic quality requirements for its institutional functions.

    The AVA system (AVA = Self-assessment, periodic assessment, accrditation) was therefore developed to achieve three main objectives:

    • the assurance, by the Ministry and through the ANVUR evaluation activity, that the Italian Higher Education Institutions uniformly provide a service of adequate quality to stakeholders and to society as a whole;
    • the exercise by universities of a responsible and reliable autonomy in the use of public resources and in collective and individual behavior regarding teaching and research activities;
    • the improvement of the quality of teaching and research activities.
