Access requirements Description
Applicants must hold a Master's Degree in Archaeology (Laurea magistrale LM-2 or Laurea specialistica 2/S) or Old System Degrees (prior to DM 509) in Humanities, History, Conservation of Cultural Heritage, History and Conservation of Cultural Heritage, Classical Humanities, History and Conservation of Architectural and Environmental Heritage. Equivalent qualification from foreign universities is also accepted (Art. 382 of T.U. 31 August 1983 N. 1592). It is indispensable to have obtained at least 90 University Training Credits (CFU) in subjects included in the scientific macro-sectors 1O/A (Archaeology) and 10/D (Science of Antiquity: "Scienze dell'Antichità). The following skills and competencies are the subject of the admission exam: Aegean Archaeology, Classical Archaeology, Greek and Roman History, Late Antique and Byzantine Archaeology, Topography, Ancient Greek, Latin. Knowledge of two foreign languages is also required.
Mandatory practical training description
An essential part of the programme is the completion of internship periods in Superintendences of Cultural Heritage, National Archaeological Museums and/or Research Institutes and Organisations.
Required qualification of teachers/trainers in the core subjects
Teachers in the core subjects have to be University Full Professors.
Description of quality assurance obligations of the programme / institution
The training and research programmes of the Italian Archaeological School at Athens are constantly monitored by both the competent Committees (Scientific and Administrative Councils) and the relevant supervising Ministries (Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Universities and Research).
Description of available grants
Every year, four study grants can be awarded. In addition, the Italian Archaeological School guarantees insurance coverage, free accommodation and a financial contribution for four educational trips (3 to Greece and 1 to Turkey).
